The Kannad XS-4 Personal Locator Beacon (PLB) - formerly the McMurdo Fast Find 210 - is a powerful 406 distress beacon with a built-in integral 50-channel GPS for additional pinpoint location, further speeding up time of location.
The XS-4 transmits two signals simultaneously. One signal (406 MHz ) is picked-up by the subscription free global satellite system. The other signal (121.5MHz) is a homing signal, picked up by local rescue units as they approach the location. Once activated, the XS-4's signals will continue to transmit for at least 24 hours at a powerful 5 watt output, the 406 MHz transmission ensures that a call for help gets through whatever the conditions.
The XS-4 also includes a unique SOS LED flash light facility which is manually activated to further assist in speeding up recovery during night time rescues.
The XS-4 will operate in temperatures down to -20°c and its integral battery has a user storage life of 5 years, so there’s no need for constant battery changes and re-charging.

How it works:
The Cospas-Sarsat 406 MHz satellite system has global coverage that provides a typical time to alert notification of between approximately 3 and 45 minutes. The geographical location of an XS-4 can normally be resolved within 5 minutes. The time to alert is dependent on which satellites are in view in the sky at the time of Fast Find activation. Non-GPS PLBs rely on passing orbiting satellites to determine an approximate position, this can take longer and the resolved position is less accurate than achieved by a GPS-equipped XS-4.

Activating the XS-4
1. Pull the antenna cover off
2. Unwrap the antenna until it stands vertical
3. Press the ON button
