AFE Partners Technical FAQs

Technical - Frequently Asked Questions

Q. What do I need to get started?

A. First of all read our basic FAQ which details all the information necessary for joining the partner program. The following guide has been prepared for somebody with a basic knowledge of HTML and should be used by the site’s webmaster. If you feel that this guide leaves any unanswered questions, please email partnerprogram@afeonline.com.

Q. WHow do I link to your existing products?

A. Once logged in as a partner when browsing the shop as a customer, you will see an extra option appears with each product desctription – “Build a link”. Selecting this gives you two options: a text only link and a text and image link.

On the left hand side you will see an expanded partners menu. From here you can choose to build a product link or category link. You do this by entering the product or category number into the text box, which is available as a list in pop-up linked from below. Selecting “Build link” creates a text link and an image link, which can be copied and pasted.

The HTML format is a standard link and can be amended as necessary. The only information that must remain in tact is the site parameters and tags for example - (a href="http://www.afeonline.com/shop/index.php?ref=3&cPath=53&affiliate_banner_id=1" target="_blank")Accessories. Everything underlined must remain unchanged.
Replace ( and ) with < and > as appropriate.

Q. Why do we suggest you use text only links?

A. The AFE site uses thumbnailed images in order to optimise loading times, the thumbnails are created and cached automatically by our server. When we upload product information, we also upload a high res image so that our customer have access to a quality enlarged image. This is the source image for the thumbnailed image. If you wish to link to our site using an image link, each time a customer views your page, they will be loading the original high res image off our server that we uploaded originally. These files can be up to 2mb in size and there is no facility to use our thumbnailing system from outside our site. You are able to change the parameters of the link so that the image is displayed at your own preferred size, but the file loaded will still be a large file and therefore you will experience slow loading times.

Q. How do we suggest that you should use the links and how do we include images?

A. If you start with the text links, you have all the basic information to ensure that you sales are recorded as a partner sale, and that your customers reach the products. Keeping it this simple, means that you are able to add your own descriptions, own images and extra images as required; whilst keeping the design concurrent with your existing site. You will have 100% flexibility with how you use the link.

Q. If we wish to use your images and product descriptions, how do we do this?

A. Obviously as a partner we will give you full access to any content on our website and any extra material as required on request. AFE are currently under the process of creating a CD-ROM containing a catalogue of website images and text descriptions, all partner customers will be notified once this is available and new customers will eventually receive a copy of this. In the mean time, any text can be copied and pasted from the site at will.

The large scale images are available by selecting a product and selecting the enlarged image. By right clicking the image, it can then be saved to your hard disk, edited and resized to reduce file size and then uploaded to your own server.

Q. Please provide an example of how we can modify a link to suit our own requirements?

A. (a href="http://www.afeonline.com/shop/index.php?ref=3&cPath=53&affiliate_banner_id=1" target="_blank")(img src=http://www.myflyingschool.com/images/accessories.jpg height=”200” width=”300”)(br)Recommended accessories(/a)
Replace ( and ) with < and > as appropriate.

The above link can be placed within your existing site layout, within a frame, table, etc, etc.

Q. What are banners?

A. For the moment banner links are not used.
